Microsoft Just Launched The Surface Laptop With 512 SSD And 16GB RAM Running The Latest Windows 10 S

Microsoft has given us great hardware, design and a debatable software experience in the past few years. With a line of smartphones (Not so impressive), tablets that literally had better configuration then hundreds of very popular laptops, the Surface Book, a 2 in 1 laptop and the most beautiful desktop I have ever seen – the Surface Studio. Innovation and introducing exciting new features to take a device to the next level seemed to be what they were thinking. But now they are taking a little more traditional route and it looks just as good. Microsoft just launched the new Surface Laptop. Not an exciting name but the specs are exciting. Let’s have a look.

The Surface Laptop has a 13.5 inch PixelSense Display covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with 201 PPI and 2,256 x 1,504px resolution. The display has 10 point multi-touch and 3:2 aspect ratio. On the inside is a 7th Generation Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 or an i5 processor with Intel HD 620 graphics. It has three RAM options of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB. The storage options are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB – all SSD. It runs Microsoft’s latest education-oriented OS Windows 10 S.

The casing is made of Aluminum with color options of Platinum, Burgundy, Cobalt Blue and Graphite Gold. On the front of the device is a 720p HD camera. You also get the Windows Hello face sign-in option with the camera. Stereo microphones with Omnisonic speakers and Dolby Audio Premium. The Surface Laptop is also compatible with Surface Dial and the Surface Pen. Microsoft claims to have 14.5 hours of video playback. So binge watching your favorite Netflix series is a lot easier now.

The Intel Core i5 processor with Intel HD 620 graphics, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD in Platinum color has a price tag of $999. The Core i5 processor with HD 620 graphics, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD in color options of Burgundy, Platinum, Cobalt Blue, Graphite Gold has a price tag of $1,299. The Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD in Platinum color has a price tag of $1,599. The Core i7 processor with Iris Plus Graphics 640, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD in Platinum color has a price tag of $2,199. Microsoft has been known to overprice their products in the past. But this seems reasonable for the specs. The structure is very similar to the Surface Pro and that is a good thing. All in all looks to be a great device for everyday use.

I think it’s a shame that Microsoft and other manufacturers still haven’t found the best formula to make Windows smartphones that actually sell great on the market, just like Androids or iPhones. The good thing is, Microsoft still has Surface Pro line. And there’s this new Surface Laptop, which is more secure OS and promises 14 hour battery life to users. But I hope Windows smartphones will also gain ground on smartphone market in the future.
