Andy Rubin has been on the positive end of speculations for the last few weeks. If you don’t know who this man is than you will be glad to know that this is the man responsible for developing Android. He has announced a smartphone named the Essential PH-1.
The new Essential PH-1 is said to be a flagship device. Let’s talk about the physical aspects. It has an edge to edge display with a very small bezel. The whole device is actually 5.6 inches in size. The display is most of the device with a very small gap for a camera. The display itself is made from a blend of titanium and ceramic. The back of the device is made from ceramic and the front of the device is made from Titanium. Which is simply stronger than most other built smartphones in the market.
The Essential PH-1 has a 5.71 inch display covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 5 with radiused corners. On the inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with Kryo 280 Octa-core CPU and Adreno 540 GPU. It has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the back of the device is a 13 MP dual camera with f/1.85 aperture. The secondary camera is a true 13 MP monochrome sensor. The back camera captures 4k Video at 30fps, 1080p videos at 60fps and 720p videos at 120fps. The secondary sensor always helps with low-light photography. The Essential website also claims the same things. On the front of the device is an 8 MP Selfie shooter with 16:9 aspect ratio and f/2.2 aperture. The front facing camera can record 4K videos at 30fps, 1080p videos at 60fps and 720p videos at 120fps. To make your photography experience better Essential will also include a 360 degree camera that can be clipped on the device.
All of this is powered by a 3040mAh battery. It connects using a USB Type C port and has fast charging. It does take a page out of Apple’s book. The Essential Phone does not have a headphone jack but the device will ship with a dongle. We don’t have anything on the operating system just yet. But we should get a few details after the first phone launch. The Essential PH-1 has a price tag of $699. Right now it said to have a limited launch in the US. There is no news on a worldwide launch just yet.
Essential is also launching a new device named Home. It is a smart assistant for your house kind of like Amazon Echo running on a brand new OS named Ambient OS. Head of Engineering for Home Devices, Manuel Roman said,
With all of new technology in our homes, we want a software platform that orchestrates our experiences with them. Ambient OS brings the home to life by choreographing the devices, content, people, and context in it.
The Essential Home connects to your whole house, works as a smart thermostats, and connects to the smart lights – basically anything and everything a smart home device is supposed to do. We don’t have any specs for the device just yet. But it looks pretty good and said to bring a lot of competition to the smart home market.
