DJI Goggles Is A VR Headset That Will Let You Control Your Drone

Last year we got the Mavic Pro drone from DJI. At that event we also had a tease for a VR headset by DJI. People did go crazy about the idea and rumors started to mingle all around the tech world. Finally this year they have announced the VR and named it the DJI Goggles.

Whenever DJI makes a device other than a drone it has something to do with their drones. The DJI Goggles are no different. It will let you control your drone or the camera angle by simply wearing the Goggles and moving your head. You look left and the drone looks left, you look right and the drone does the same – at least that’s the idea of it. An interesting idea giving VR users a perspective of a flying drones.

The VR headset has two 5 inch displays per eye with a 1,920×1,080 resolution per display. The displays offer 720p videos at 60fps, 720p videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at 30fps. A touchpad on the side for faster menu navigation. Also for external input we get a headphone jack, a microSD card slot, HDMI and a few microUSB ports.

All of this is powered by a 9,440 mAh battery. Which is a big battery for a headgear. DJI claims up to six hours of battery life. The DJI Goggles works with the DJI’s own Mavic Pro, Phantom 4, and all of the Inspire series drones. It is more of an accessory to their drones. But if they find success with this they might expand into the larger VR market. The price tag on the DJI Goggles is $449. It is up for preorder right now and is expected to start shipping within next month.
